WE RUN, EAT, and DRINK DISNEY on THIS WEEK’S SHOW!

This week we share your listener feedback about keeping training enjoyable when it gets tough.  Thank you to everyone who sent in a tip, trick, or suggestion!  

On this episode, we got to test out our really great audio equipment and talk to a special guest.  When things get tough in your training season, it is important to be part of a training group or online group that understands and can provide support and advice.  The Be Our Guest Podcast Lizards FaceBook group is one of the best.  It was born out of the Be Our Guest Podcast, which is a fantastic podcast about all things Disney (Shout out to Mike, Pam, and Rikki!).  The Be Our Guest Podcast Lizards group on FaceBook started because of a love for all things RunDisney, but members also support each other in all running endeavors and races.

We are sharing our interview with Mike Bankhead, who created the Be Our Guest Podcast Lizards running group on Facebook almost six years ago!  It is almost 2000 members strong.  Mike talks about his journey with running, creating the group, and shares his tips and tricks for a Disney runcation or vacation!  He emphasizes that this group has forged very special friendships and members who cheer each other on have become like family to each other.  He also shares his favorite places to stay and where to eat after you have run off all those calories!

He also shared great resources like The Magic for Less Travel, to help you book a magical Disney vacation and The Mouse for Less, which is the blog that Rikki, co-host of the Be Our Guest Podcast along with Mike Rahlmann, helps to maintain and that gives you tips, tricks, information, and great resources about Disney, too!

RED Episode #43: 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon - A Comeback!

Welcome to Orlando, Florida and Walt Disney World for the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Two-Course Challenge, and Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

RUN

In this episode, we run the half marathon on Sunday of theRunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend.  The course is relatively flat and takes you from Magic Kingdom parking lot to Animal Kingdom and the beautiful Pandora area then to Hollywood Studios before finishing around the World Showcase at Epcot.  My cameraman narrates most of this episode because he wanted me to run "my race at my pace" for this comeback.  It is a comeback because we were picked up at mile 10 of this same half marathon last year. So we had to return and finish what we started.  A year later, 50 pounds lighter, and feeling good on race day, this was an emotional one for the books!

 

EAT

We visited theFlavors from Firebooth at the 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival to have their smokey and delicious offerings.  The Piggy Wings are pork wings with a Korean BBQ sauce and a tangy slaw.  The smell of the booth alone is worth Disney bringing it back next year.  We had more from the booth because of the fantastic aroma, so stay tuned for Quick Bites with more to share!

DRINK

Flavors from Firealso had an interesting bourbon beverage called the Swine Brine.  Jim Beam, lemon juice, apple cider, and dijon mustard!  Who thought to put all that together?  A genius, that's who.

RED Quick Bite #58: Chocolate Studio at the 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival

Here's our fourth Quick Bite from the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend

We stopped at the Chocolate Studiothat is a part of the 2018 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.  We had it all...Liquid Nitro Chocolate-Almond Truffle, Sweet Dark Chocolate Raspberry Torte, Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Frozen Cocktail with Caramel Vodka, and Croft 10-Year Tawny Port.  This was a dessert-lover's dream. We hope you'll watch, share, and enjoy this holiday weekend!
