RED Episode #64- Listener Comments, The Tampa Beer Run, and a Tampa Staple, Chubby’s

RUN

First up, we asked for your travel tips for runners and we are happy to share them here so we can all learn how to get the most out of our luggage space while being prepared for a great runcation.

Then we celebrated our second anniversary, although it was a few weeks early, by running the Tampa Beer Run to benefit Humane Society of Tampa and My Hope Chest.  It was a 5K inside of Al Lopez Park that offered four beer stops with local brews for us to try.  The weather was great.  The course was flat and offered so much shade we were jealous of every Tampa local who can use this park as a training ground.  We got to meet cute dogs on the course and got a bonus beer at the after party.  No medal, but a great pint glass and t-shirt have always been great souvenirs for this race. There was a food truck and beer along with a DJ at the after party, all contained within the park.  The race offered a Lyft discount code for afterward and encouraged designated drivers.  It was our third time doing this race, but every year it proves to be a great time with great people supporting a great cause.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, TOO!  In the coming weeks, we will be talking about virtual races and what we think of them.  So, email us at info@runeatdrink.net or call and leave us a message at 941- 677-2733.  Let us know what your thoughts are about virtual races you’ve done or just the concept of virtual races in general. Send us a voice recording, write us an email, or call and leave us a message and we’ll share your feedback in our next episode.

EAT

Chubby’s Super Subs and Pizza has been a staple in Tampa for 37 years.  We bring to you the Steak Bomb, which is one of the best cheesesteaks we have ever had because it has a surprising ingredient of salami!  A soft hoagie roll, peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, and the bonus ingredient made it so good! No wonder they’ve been here for so long, just off Bayshore and not too far from Asian Kitchen and Sociale, the places we reviewed back in February for the Gasparilla race weekend.  It is another one in Tampa you should check out if you are in town for any reason!

DRINK

Now here are the beers we tried.  All of them were carefully selected to complement the fact that we were running a 5k on a hot and somewhat humid day in May.

Beer Stop #1: Coppertail Independent Pilsner and Free Dive IPA

Beer Stop #2:  Motorworks Brewing V Twin Lager

Beer Stop #3:  Six Ten Brewing Tent Beer Lager

Beer Stop #4: Estrella Galicia Special Lager

Bonus at the After Party was one we’ve had and love, JDub’s Brewing Company Poolside Kölsch.
