RED Episode 59: Training and Race Schedule Updates, King’s Kitchen, and Coastal Dayz Brewery

RUN

This week we talk about our training plan and upcoming races heading into the hot and humid Florida summer.

In May, we will head to the Tampa Beer Run.  It is our third time doing this awesome race and it was the very first one we covered on our podcast, so how could we pass it up?  It will be a nice flat training run while we get to sample some new local beers.

Then we will head into summer, and we have committed to do the RunDisney Virtual Race Series that celebrates 80 years of Marvel.  We complete a 5k in June for a Captain Marvel medal, one in July for an Iron Man medal, and one in July for a Black Panther medal.  Plus, because we complete the entire series, we will have a bonus Marvel medal!

In July, we will head to Key West for the Hemingway Key West 5K Sunset Run, and we are so excited because it is a nighttime race.  Can’t wait to get back down there and sample more island food and beverages from on and off Duval!

In August, we will have a big trip!  We will go the Anchorage RunFest in Anchorage, Alaska!  So excited!  We will participate in the Back 2 Back Challenge, which involves a 1-mile race on Saturday and a longer race of your choosing on Sunday.

EAT

This weekend, we got to try King’s Kitchen in downtown Fort Myers.  King’s Kitchen does comfort food from all corners of the globe, with a twist.  We had the Loaded Tostones.  Tostones, pulled mojo pork, sour cream, and pico.  They were delicious!  It was a very unexpected sweeter twist by comparison to traditional nachos.  We can’t wait to go back and have a meal there.  They have daily specials and happy hour as well.

DRINK

We headed to a local brewery that has only been open a couple of years.  But we can’t wait to go back.  Coastal Dayz Brewery is also in downtown Fort Myers.  It is a laid back atmosphere with a beach theme.  The tables are bolted down and made of concrete with table legs wrapped in rope.  They serve popcorn to munch on and you can order food from McGregor Pizza and Deli or partake in some awesome local food trucks on most days.  We had a delicious flight that illustrates the tasty variety in their refreshing beer.  We met Gary, owner and Navy Veteran.  We are looking forward to going back and sitting down with Gary to find out more and taste additional original brews!
