RED Quick Bite #40: Nevermind's James Beard Burger Contender & National Scotch Day

RUN

Okay.  We "ran" to a couple of our favorite local restaurants to get dinner and drinks.  Yes, we will get a training run in this weekend, but first we had to celebrate a great burger and National Scotch Day. We ran into a local American Ninja Warrior competitor that I am a huge fan of Morgan Wright, "the moose" took a photo with us!

EAT

We went to Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery in our hometown of Cape Coral to support owner Shannon Yates in the James Beard Blended Burger Project competition going on now through July 31st.  The burger is a blend of a Grilled Angus Burger and Quincy FL Medium Mushrooms Century Beef Waygu Steak Tartar layered with arugula, onions, and Gruyere cheese on a Toasted 10Cent bun.  We are still dreaming about it.

You should try it if you are anywhere near Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery and you should vote for this burger in the James Beard Blended Burger Project here: jamesbeard.org/blendedburgerproject/vote(At the top of the page, click vote and scroll down past the description of the contest to where you can search entries.  Type in Nevemind to get straight to their entry and vote.)

DRINK

We were at Nice Guys Pizza to celebrate National Scotch Day, thanks to the recommendation of Murphy, the bartender at Nevermind, who told us that Nice Guys had a great Dalwhinnie 15-year old Scotch that we needed to try.   Greg, one of the owners of Nice Guys Pizza, had their amazing bartender Jimmy Salemi put together a great beverage featuring Dalwhinnie 15-year old Scotch,  that has no name, but will be featured on an upcoming cocktail menu.

RED Quick Bite #39: National Mojito Day 2018

It's National Mojito Day 2018!

We went to Nice Guys Pizza last year and Jimmy Salemi made us a traditional mojito on Quick Bite #7 of our show. This year, we took a page from Valerie Bertinelli and made a Grapefruit Mojito based on her recipe. Plus we featured our favorite hometown rum, Wicked Dolphin.

Red Episode #29: Cape Cops 5K and Pizza & Cocktails at Nice Guys Pizza

RUN

We ran a race in our hometown this week, the Cape Cops 5k.  This race is near and dear to our hearts.  It benefits the families of fallen officers and those injured in the line of duty.  It was a great way to see parts of our community that we do not normally see on a daily basis as well as support those who keep us safe.  If you have a chance to run a race like this in your community, you should.  it is a great feeling.

EAT

Nice Guys Pizza is a place we have talked about and we have shot Quick Bites from on several occasions.  Recently, they celebrated their 5th anniversary.  We are so honored and humbled to have been some of their first customers.  If you are ever in our hometown, you need to stop by this amazing hole-in-the-wall pizza place with delicious food, amazing cocktails, and tasty craft beer.

Greg and Jovana, the owners of this outstanding pizza joint, welcomed us into the kitchen this week for a peek behind the scenes.  We got to see how they make their awesome pizza. On the menu this week, the first pizza we ever tried there: The Truffle Shuffle.

DRINK

Jimmy creates some amazing cocktails at Nice Guys Pizza. The one we feature this week is their most popular and our favorite, The Pendennis.  It is the greatest Smoked Old Fashioned I've ever had.

Stay tuned throughout this week and next for Quick Bites featuring great food and beverages from Nice Guys Pizza.  They mean so much to us that we can't help but celebrate them and what they have done for our community.
